NotesMonticelli painted a large variety of these so-called ´scenes de Parc´. They were inspired by theatre and opera perfomances. Monticelli was a fanatic theater-goer and never missed a performance of the Italian opera's and pantomimes that were in fashion. In his paintings he not only illlustrates the scenes, but he endeavours to translate the sense of drama, noise and light effects of the theatre into his work. The technique of his impasto became a trademark also for Vincent van Gogh.
